On Monday, Audrey Hale, who was being treated for an emotional disorder, strolled into a school in Nashville, Tennessee carrying 3 legally purchased high powered weapons, one of which was a KelTecSUB2000 Carbine Rifle that the manufacturer describes as “fun to shoot”. The description on the company's website goes on to add, “Folded, it tucks away nicely in situations where space is limited, but it's quick to deploy in situations where time is of the essence.”
Hale began firing indiscriminately at whoever she encountered, leaving 6 people dead in her wake, including 3 - 9-year old children. Police killed her within 4 minutes of arriving on the scene.
Andrew Ogle, the Republican Congressman who represents the district where the shooting occurred said he was “utterly heartbroken” and offered “thoughts and prayers to the families of those lost.”
For their 2021 Christmas card, Ogle, his wife, and 2 of his 3 children posed holding guns with the caption that read, “The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference—they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good.”
There is no possibility of further gun regulation in the current Republican held Congress.
