The Republican Party is in despair. While most of its leaders are outraged at former President Trump for causing a meltdown with the loss of easily winnable seats in both the House and Senate last year, they have to play nice (it's called lying) by continuing to praise and support him in an effort to hang on to his cult-like base. But by doing so, they're helping him get the nomination for the 2024 presidential election, which puts them in a self-inflicted bind. I'm guessing they're praying for multiple indictments (or worse) to befall their private nemesis.
As if this weren't enough, the Dobbs decision ending Roe vs. Wade caught them with their pants down and now they're struggling to pull them back up. Kansas showed them in August of 2022 when its citizens voted by a large margin to keep abortion legal. Then last week a progressive judge overwhelmingly won a vacant seat on Wisconsin's State Supreme Court while running on a pro-choice platform. Then yesterday a rabid antiabortion, Trump appointed judge ordered the FDA to ban a drug that was approved 23 years ago, just because it's used to end pregnancies - safely at that. Does that judge know more about medicine than the physicians advising the FDA?
It appears that anti-abortion zealots can't see the forest because the trees are in the way and are doubling down by disregarding polls showing that 61% of the country wants abortion to remain legal. They merely think they have a messaging issue, but they'll soon find out otherwise.
Their swallowing is getting harder and harder as young women begin to show them who's boss.
